Feb 14th is V-Day!

Dear Everybody and Everything,

V-Day 2004: Spotlight on Missing & Murdered Women In Juarez

Happy V-Day!

And for people thinking I mean Valentines day, think again. It is V-DAY: a day to celebrate being a woman, and to end the violence. Vagina Day! And if you know me, I no longer celebrate valentines day.

Today, the global attention for the violence against women focus's on Japan. August 2005 marked the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII. However, for the 'comfort women,' civilians forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military between 1932 and 1945.

So this year
V-Day Spotlight 2006: Justice to 'Comfort Women
The euphemism 'comfort women' was coined by imperial Japan to refer to young females of various ethnic and national backgrounds who were forced to offer sexual services to the Japanese troops during the Asia/Pacific Wars between 1932 and 1945. Some were minors sold into 'comfort stations,' others were deceptively recruited by middlemen, and still more were detained and forcibly abducted. Estimates of the number of 'comfort women' range between 50,000 to 200,000.

So I was wondering if people were interested in seeing the Vagina Monologues in Frankfurt? There will be a production on the 4 & 5th of March. It is actually a great play and is good for everyone. If you are interested, it is going to be in English and will cost about 12-15€. For more information check out:
V-Day Frankfurt am Main

This is a really confronting and at the same time entertaining play. Let me know, because I am going to go anyway.

Happy Vagina Day girls and guys, make it a good one! And enjoy Valentine's Day if you celebrate it.

Viva la Vagina!

Peace Out!
Bec
PS.The above picture was taken two years ago when I was in Mexico where the attention was focused on Juarez and the murders of girls had remained uninvestigated. And as a result of the march on Juarez the Chihuahua State’s Attorney had resigned.
